November 2008
It is a pleasure
to welcome you to the Wyoming First Lady’s Initiative website.
November has been the beginning of what promises to be a very
busy holiday season for the WFLI.
The month starts off with the Governor’s Round Table on
Children’s Mental Health with a youth track that confronts the
issues of childhood drinking and suicide. This conference is
taking place on November 5th-6th at Little America Hotel in
Cheyenne. For more information, please contact UPLIFT at
1-888-875-4383.
The activities continue with the youth engagement grants, which
are due on November 1st. Final decisions for these grants will
be announced on November 15th. Please go to the link under
“Breaking News” for a copy of the application. These grants are
for youth to continue or start efforts within their community to
prevent childhood drinking and promote safe choices.
Over the past year, community members and leaders, law makers
and enforcers, and experts in various fields from across Wyoming
came together to review Wyoming’s legislation on underage
drinking and access. The final report from this review will be
coming out soon. This website will keep you informed when the
report is available.
Recently, all of Wyoming’s community colleges and the University
of Wyoming came together to discuss their role in the prevention
of childhood drinking. These conversations will continue
throughout the year and into 2009.
People all over the state are stepping up and making a real
difference in their community. Thank you for your hard work.
Together we can make the difference.
Sincerely,
Nancy Freudenthal
