Strings
Keeping kids safe from alcohol is like teaching them to ride –
like teaching them almost any new skill. Holding tight - letting
go. And with time, we can watch them fly. Let them reach for
their goals, but with strings attached.
This new poster concept is an important message for parents. It
describes a series of lifelines to help keep kids safe from
alcohol.
Curfews work - enforce them. Lock up your alcohol, count it,
track it. Love as a parent, not a friend. Set rules - voice
them, follow them. Don't be swayed by what other parents are
doing. Never buy alcohol for kids because you think it's safer.
If you think your child is drinking, they probably are - address
it now. Limit alcohol at your own parties - kids are watching.
Never look the other way when alcohol is being used by underage
youth.
Band together with like-minded parents.
Face it - as a parent, you will be the bad guy sometimes. Don't
be afraid of losing your child's love, be afraid of losing them.
And no, not everyone is going on Spring Break with their
friends.

Easiest Place
Actually the second newly branded poster concept isn’t new at
all. This poster and magnet is one we’ve seen a lot of over the
past few years – but it still remains one of the most sought
after. So we’re bringing it back with a special branding for the
Wyoming First Lady’s Initiative.
The Easiest Place For Kids to Get Beer is right next to the
milk. One of the easiest places for kids to get alcohol is in
your own kitchen. Take stock of your supply. Keep Alcohol Out of
The Hands of Kids.

Phase
Two has begun!
Phase Two of
this messaging campaign began on March 5, 2005 and is aimed at
delaying the onset of drinking and to deliver the message that
underage drinking in the state will no longer be tolerated or
ignored. An image of a youthful rider on a bucking bull with
the message “Help kids stay on longer” and an image of
gloved hands holding reins with the message “Alcohol and
youth do not have a free rein in Wyoming” are now being
displayed on billboards and posters distributed across the
state. |
|
Additionally,
new radio and television public service announcements have begun
to air throughout the state. “No Big Deal” and “Oath” present a
realistic view of our social norms and the individual actions
that you can take to help in this effort. The television public
service announcement “Someone drinks too much” provides a stark
reminder of the fatal consequences that sometimes occur. The
radio announcement “I love you too much” provides responses that
parents can make to the pressures of just “going along” and
giving in to your children’s requests. Take a look, listen,
and “Take the Pledge!” |
|
PHASE ONE
BILLBOARDS |
|
The campaign began in December with two
billboards as the first phase in a three-part campaign that
hopes to reduce not only the prevalence and availability of
alcohol to underage youth, but reduce adult acceptability and
tolerance of underage drinking. The campaign includes television
and radio public service announcements, theater ads, posters,
banners, print materials and community-based training. It also
provides specific actions for parents, community groups, law
enforcement and youth to reduce the risks associated with
underage drinking |
